One of the features of Sons and Daughters which lasted throughout the six years it was produced was the pictures of the main cast that formed the opening titles. These pictures were changed when cast members departed and arrived, and the different sets of pictures that were used are charted below.

Episodes 1 - 174

The first set of cast photos comprised John Palmer, Angela Hamilton/Palmer/Keegan, Patricia Hamilton, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Gordon Hamilton, Beryl Palmer, Jill Taylor, Wayne Hamilton, Susan Todd (née Palmer) and Kevin Palmer.

Episodes 175 - 275; 277 - 292

The second set of cast photos, introduced at the start of the 1983 season, comprised John Palmer, Angela Keegan, Patricia Hamilton, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Gordon Hamilton, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Jill Taylor, Rob Keegan and Kevin Palmer.

Episodes 276; 293 - 352

Later in 1983, a revised set of photos was introduced, comprising John Palmer, Jill O'Donnel, Patricia Morrell, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Gordon Hamilton, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Lynn Palmer and Kevin Palmer.

Episodes 353 - 424

These titles, introduced from the start of the 1984 season, comprised John Palmer, Jill O'Donnel, Patricia Morrell, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Gordon Hamilton, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Morrell, Barbara Hamilton, Lynn Palmer and Andy Green.

Episodes 425 - 492; 497 - 500

These titles, introduced in mid-1984, comprised Patricia Morrell, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Jill O'Donnel, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Morrell, Amanda Morrell, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Lynn Palmer and Andy Green.

Episodes 493 - 496; 501 - 545

This further set of 1984 titles comprised Patricia Morrell, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Jill O'Donnel, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Amanda Morrell, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Katie O'Brien and Andy Green.

Episodes 546 - 584

This set of titles was introduced early in the 1985 season, at the start of the episode following the one in which Patricia told the plastic surgeon in Rio that she wanted a new face. It comprised Fiona Thompson, David Palmer, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Gordon Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Andy Green, Amanda Morrell, Katie O'Brien and Jill O'Donnel.

Episodes 585 - 596

The second set of opening titles introduced in 1985 started airing in the episode following that in which the O'Briens and Jill O'Donnel departed the series. They comprised Fiona Thompson, David Palmer, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Gordon Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Andy Green, Amanda Morrell, Katie O'Brien and Caroline Morrell.

Episodes 597 - 600

The third set of opening titles used in 1985 lasted for just one block of episodes. They were unusual in that they comprised photos of only ten characters, rather than the eleven that were used in all other sets of opening titles throughout the series' run. The titles incorporated Fiona Thompson, David Palmer, Beryl Palmer, Wayne Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Gordon Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Andy Green, Leigh Palmer and Caroline Morrell.

Episodes 601 - 608; 610 - 612

The fourth set of photos from 1985 comprised Fiona Thompson, David Palmer, Beryl Palmer, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Wayne Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Stephen Morrell, Caroline Morrell, Andy Green and Leigh Palmer.

Episodes 609; 613 - 652

After another few episodes, the opening titles were again revised, although this time only very slightly, with the photo of Caroline Morrell being flipped round. As before, these titles comprised Fiona Thompson, David Palmer, Beryl Palmer, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Wayne Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Stephen Morrell, Caroline Morrell, Andy Green and Leigh Palmer.

Episodes 653 - 654; 656 - 658; 661 - 664

In late-1985, after Sons and Daughters had been running for nearly four years, there was finally a new set of photos of the entire cast; the shots of David, Gordon, Beryl and Wayne that had been used since Episode 1 were discarded at long last and replaced with new pictures. This set of opening titles comprised David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Beryl Palmer, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Wayne Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Irene Fisher, Caroline Morrell, Andy Green and Leigh Palmer.

Episodes 655; 659 - 660; 665 - 696

Curiously, this set of photos was intermingled with the previous set for a few episodes: it used exactly the same photos as above, but the shots of the faces were in more of a close-up than before. The titles comprised, as previously, David Palmer, Fiona Thompson, Beryl Palmer, Gordon Hamilton, Barbara Hamilton, Wayne Hamilton, Charlie Bartlett, Irene Fisher, Caroline Morrell, Andy Green and Leigh Palmer.
