The theme music to Sons and Daughters was
written by Peter Pinne and Don Battye and sung by Kerri Biddell
and Mick Leyton. There are two main versions of the music: one
in three-four time and one in four-four time: the first version
was used as the main closing theme for the majority of episodes
shown in 1982 and 1983, while the second version was used predominantly
for all the remaining episodes from 1984 to 1987. In addition,
there was the opening theme, which consisted of the song's chorus
followed by an instrumental, most of which was never heard to
any great extent. The two full versions of the theme were released
on the two sides of a 7" single in the UK in April 1984.
Entitled 'Sons and Daughters Theme' and credited to 'Kerri
and Mick', the single reached the heady heights of Number 68 in
the Top 75, and stayed in the charts for three weeks. It was released
on the A1 record label with catalogue number 'A1 286'.
The files below contain the opening titles theme
and the two versions of the closing theme, in MP3 format. The
words are also published below, so make sure you sing along!

Love is very strange, it can come and go
It can happen when you are young or old
When it comes, it comes from nowhere
When it comes, it changes your life
Sons and Daughters
Love and laughter
Tears of sadness and happiness
We will find out our sons and daughters
Are what, we too, were once about
Love can happen now, and it happened then
Wondered at the time what love really meant
When it came, it came from nowhere
When it came, it altered my life
Sons and Daughters
Love and laughter
Tears of sadness and happiness
We will find out our sons and daughters
Are what, we too, were once about
[Repeat chorus to fade]
