First Appearance: Episode 181
Last Appearance: Episode 422
Key Storylines:
Patricia's sister had an affair with Martin Healy in the
early-1960s at the same time as he was seeing Patricia
- although Patricia didn't know this. After Patricia suffers
a breakdown in early-1983, John tracks Margaret down to
see if she can help her sister. Margaret is initially
wary, and doesn't want to know. However, a few weeks later,
she loses the house she's living in, following the death
of her and Patricia's Aunt Mary, and she decides that
Patricia owes her for ignoring her for the last 21 years.
She quickly discovers that Patricia is seeing Martin again,
and determines to put a spoke in the works - which she
does successfully. Martin ends up committing suicide,
but Margaret inadvertently frames David Palmer for his
death, having intended to frame Patricia. Margaret
flees to Perth, but is caught by the police and jailed
in Melbourne for six months.
While she's in jail, she inherits a fortune in Dee Morrell's
will. When she's released, she is still bitter towards
Patricia and vows to destroy her, but when the two of
them are caught in a bushfire at Woombai, and Patricia
falls off her horse, Margaret realises that she can't
leave her. The two of them become reconciled. Meanwhile,
Margaret begins to fall in love with David while nursing
him after he's shot by Joe Parker. David eventually splits
from Beryl and he and Margaret move in together. However,
the two of them are then involved in a 'plane crash, and
although David escapes unscathed, Margaret suffers serious
burns after a petrol can explodes. While she's recovering
in hospital, David asks her to marry him, and she says
'yes'. Sadly, while she's having an operation on her burns,
her heart gives out as the result of a murmur that she's
already been warned about, and she dies. Her last wish
- which she puts in a letter - is for David to look after
Patricia.
