Key Storylines:
Greg Hudson is at university in Melbourne when Alison Carr turns up and introduces herself as his aunt! A rather surprised Greg listens to her story about how his mother, Pamela, was released from jail recently and how Alison - Pamela's sister - has been trying to track her down. Greg invites Alison to a barbecue with his sister, Sarah, their father, Barry, and their adoptive mother, Phyllis, where he introduces the new arrival to the family.

Greg, Sarah and their parents aren't particularly close - the children are always trying to rebel against their strict upbringing - so when Alison invites them to live with her, they both hesitate only momentarily before accepting her offer.

Up in Sydney, Greg spends most of his time trying to work out what to do with his life. He switches between various jobs in the space of just a few weeks, including sign-writing and writing verses for birthday and other cards. It's the latter that lands him a full-time job.

Meanwhile, Alison lavishes money on the twins - but when Greg learns from Wayne Hamilton that Pamela had been in Sydney with Alison at the same time that he and Sarah had arrived and yet Alison had insisted she had no idea where her sister was, he turns against her, leaving her to stay in a cheap, run-down motel by herself.
