Key Storylines:
Craig turns up in Sydney, looking for his mother, Ruby Hawkins, who gave him up when he was a baby - and who is the exact double of Beryl Palmer. Initial misunderstandings are resolved and Craig accepts that Beryl isn't Ruby. Beryl subsequently helps Craig track Ruby down. When they find her, she doesn't want to know Craig - but she relents, only to then use him to obtain money.

Craig hasn't known Ruby long when she's murdered. He finds himself framed for her death - but by enlisting Beryl to dress up as Ruby, he tricks the real murderer - Colin Hopkins - into confessing.

When Craig spots flower-delivery girl, Debbie Halliday, walking past him one day, he is immediately smitten. He chases after her and asks her out. Their relationship develops - and survives Craig's jealousy when he thinks Debbie shows interest in various other guys, including Andy Green - and it also survives a brief fling between Craig and Ginny Doyle - and Craig asks Debbie to marry him. She says yes!

Having lost his real mother, Craig decides to track down his real father. Sadly, Peter Elliot doesn't want to know Craig, so Craig consoles himself knowing that he has lots of friends, a gorgeous fiancée and a new family in Beryl and her second husband, Gordon Hamilton.
