Last Appearance: Episode 704
Key Storylines:
Mary Reynolds turns up at Woombai, lost and confused and
claiming to Gordon and Barbara - who are staying there
- that Patricia is her mother. Once she's calmed down,
she explains that her grandmother told her that her mother
is Patricia Hamilton - only her grandmother and grandfather
are now both dead, having been murdered. Mary claims that
she witnessed the murders while hiding underneath her
bed. Gordon and Barbara are initially sceptical - only
the murderer then turns up at Woombai and starts gunning
for Mary. The police eventually catch him and it emerges
that he was a nephew of Mary's grandmother who thought
he would inherit her money upon her death - only it went
to Mary instead, meaning he had to kill her,
as well.
When Gordon and Barbara return to Dural, Mary goes with
them and becomes their housekeeper. She meets Alison Carr,
who claims to have been the last person to see Patricia,
who is now apparently dead. Mary shows Alison a photo
and letter she has from Patricia - only Alison then steals
them from her. Mary can't make anyone believe this, though.
When Fiona Thompson returns from Brazil, she brings back
a photo of what Patricia apparently looks like after plastic
surgery; she isn't dead, apparently, much to Mary's delight.
Mary grows fond of Wayne after he teaches her to read
and write. Wayne asks Mary to marry him after learning
that she'll inherit a large amount of money: his motives
are pure, though, as he wants to help Gordon out financially.
Mary accepts the proposal and she and Wayne marry. However,
while in Sydney before heading off on honeymoon, Mary
is confronted by Alison who tells her - to Mary's shock
- that she's Patricia and that she's Mary's mother
- and Gordon's her father, making Wayne her half-brother.
An upset Mary has to admit the truth to a horrified Wayne.
Realising she cares about him too much to be able to see
him every day, she decides to leave Sydney and enrol in
a remedial school in South Australia where she can learn
to read properly.
